While Lincolnshire Council is predicting that it won’t have a funding gap for 2024/25, it does not mean that local services will not be impacted. Every council in the UK is feeling the pressure of over a decade of funding cuts. From the councils that are predicting that they won’t have a funding gap for 2024/25 nearly all are predicting substantial funding shortfalls for 2025/26. Some councils are also predicting no funding gaps for 2024/25 because they have already made cuts to local services or they have made pre-emptive use of their emergency reserves. Make no mistake, the financial outlook for all local councils is absolutely dire and we need everyone to write to their MP to let them know they care about council services Help to save our services. However, many areas in England are covered by a district council (also sometimes called a borough council) and also a county council, which divide the delivery of local services. District councils are responsible for services like waste collection, housing, planning, environmental health and leisure centres. These services are facing drastic cuts too.
